Marriage to Nancy Billings on Dec 23, 1846 in White Co, TN. In 1850 in District 2, Dekalb, TN.
Edmund worked as a wood cabinet maker. Their first two children were born here. They settled in Gonzales Co. TX along with the Billings, Bass and Avant families. By 1860, Edmund was an established farmer and his family had grown to include four daughters. Their eighth child Isabel was born in 1861. It is not known if Edmund ever saw his child as he participated in the Civil War around this date.
In 1870, his widow Nancy, surrounded by many friends and close family, remained on their property, Married daughter Sarah Roebuck lived right next door. Mary Jane married George Rodarmel and sister Judy married his brother Robert.
Their younger unmarried daughters Hixie and Isabel lived with Mary Jane Rodarmel in 1880.

Two groups of Soldiers from Gonzalez County, the thirty-one man Gonzalez Invincibles and thirty-eight privates of the Wilson Rifles helped formed the core of Company I.
Edmund enlisted as a Corporal under Col Moore in Galveston Sept. 16, 1861. His Military documents record Edmund was mortally wounded in battle of Pittsburg Landing on April 7, 1862, in Shiloh, TN. (www.fold3.com/page/637312192-edmund-c-burton).
