Henry came into Tennessee from Maryland in 1799 and was one of the commissioners to lay out Smithville in Dekalb County, Tennessee. For a period of time he served as a constable in White County, which later became part of Dekalb County, Tennessee.

Henry H. Burton from all that can be concluded was a faithful Christian man, a Baptist Minister, and an avid reader of the Bible. How he must have loved the Lord Jesus Christ.

"On the night of his death he was unable to lie down, so sat up and quoted scripture and talked all night until he fell over dead. James Marion Baker was sitting up with him when he died."

From Dekalb County Tennessee History. "Mine Lick had a Primitive Baptist Church with only 16 members in 1853. Henry Burton was the pastor, and died in 1853. The church is believed to have dwindled away after Burton's passing."

What an unusual man he must have been and how schooled he was in the word of the Lord. I honor this wonderful ancestor.
Henry and his wife had 15 children. My ancestor was their son,
Charles Burton, who was killed during the Civil War in an unusual accident.
