Peter DeWitt born c. 1722 perhaps Milford, Pike County, Pennsylvania, married Marytje (Mary) Roos (or perhaps Roosa). They had a son bpt in 1750 in the Reformed Dutch Church of Machackemeck in the present town of Deerpark, Orange County, New York. They perhaps resided in Sussex County, New Jersey or eastern Monroe or Pike County, Pennsylvania. They were witnesses 2 July 1750 at the baptism of Maria daughter of Martinus DeWitt and his wife, Saertje Joons. On 1773 tax list of Newton with 100 acres, 14 horses and/or cattle. Same acreage in 1774, 13 cattle. He may be the Peter DeWitt Sr., of Newton, Sussex County who purchased 92 1/2 acres "on Peppercotton (Papakating) Sussex County east Jersey" 10 Oct 1772 from Elizabeth Sharp widow of Isaac Sharp and Joseph Sharp and Grace his wife, all of Salem County, New Jersey, deed recorded 22 Feb 1806. Called, Peter the elder, when wife, Mary and Peter Jr., were appointed 23 Oct 1776 to administer the estate. Inventory filed 6 Nov 1776 in the amount of 377 pounds. Mary is related to have died 1817. They are related to have had thirteen children, nine who reached adulthood.
