James J. Loutsch, 86 years old, of Akron, IA, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020, at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center in Sioux City, IA.

Graveside service, following COVID-19 restrictions, will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2020, at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen, IA, with Father William McCarthy officiating. Military honors will be conducted by V.F.W. Post 3328 and American Legion Post 220 of Remsen. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. James was born Nov. 8, 1933, in Remsen to Michael and Clara (Pletschette) Loutsch. He was raised and educated in the Remsen and Oyens area.

He then entered the U.S. Army on Oct. 12, 1955, and served until Aug. 21, 1957, when he was honorably discharged.

On April 18, 1976, he married Joyce Schilling at Elk Point, SD. The couple made their home in Cedar Rapids at Quaker Oats until 1993. They then moved to the Akron area, where they farmed until recently. James loved to work.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce of Akron; children, Steve (Shirley) Loutsch of Coralville, IA, Diane Commely of Cedar Rapids, IA, Frank (Terry) Loutsch of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Nancy (Tim) McKinley of Walford, IA; siblings, Mary Marsh of LeMars, IA, Carol Schmitz of Sioux City, Marvin (Joan) Loutsch of LeMars, and Marlene (LeRoy) Pinney of Sioux City; one sister-in-law, Dolores Vannatta of Cherokee, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded by his parents; brothers, Arnold and Nick Loutsch; sister, Elaine in infancy; and brother-in-law, Robert Vannatta.
