A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, with Fr. William McCarthy officiating. Visitation with family present will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, with rosary and vigil prayer service at 5:00 p.m. at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA.

Nicholas was born in Remsen on February 14, 1927, the son of Michael and Claire Loutsch. He attended Remsen High School.

Nick started working on the farm when he was young and continued to enjoy farming and took various farm jobs from neighbors to help out at home. He then went to work at Swift’s Packing House, where he retired after 33 years. While at Swift’s, he came back to the farm life when his father became ill. He and his brother took over the farm duties, and eventually he bought the farm and another 40 acres. He continued farming and working at Swift’s for numerous years. When he retired at Swift’s he continued farming until his eyesight started going bad.

On Jan 28, 1961, he married Bernice Peterson in Sioux City, and they had a son they named Terry.

Nicholas enjoyed being around people very much. He loved spending time in casinos until his eyesight started to worsen. He loved having a few beers with his friends, dancing, and farming. He really enjoyed conversing with others about how the crops were doing. He especially enjoyed visiting his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren during the holidays. After eating he would have his usual nap.

He is survived by his son and his wife, Terry and Melonie of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Meghan, Morgan, Joshua, and Brady; three sisters, Carol Loutsch and Marlene Pinney of Sioux City and Mary Marsh of LeMars, Iowa; and two brothers, Jimmy and Marvin Loutsch of LeMars.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his brother, Arnold Loutsch.

Casket bearers will be Joshua Schilousky, Jerome Montagne, Scott Schimitz, Lonnie Pinney, Chuck Parmalee, and Brian Kilker.

Honorary bearers will be Kenny Kilker, Donnie Loutsch, Richard Sopoci, and Mark Schroeder.
