She graduated in 1949 from Old Washington High School in Ohio. She married Don Payne in 1964.
Helen loved animals, she was an avid reader and she loved quilting and crafts of all kinds. She loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters: Pamela (Walter) Johnson and Paula (David) Spalding; step-children: Cindy Hunsucker, Lydia (Ron) Foreman and Michael Payne; sixteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Terry Thompson, daughter Penny Fields, step-son William Payne, step-daughter Donna Payne.
A visitation will be held Thursday, May 21, 2020 from 10:30am until 12:30pm at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory Greenwood Chapel, 481 W. Main St. Greenwood, IN. Due to pandemic restrictions, it is requested that all attending wear a face covering and observe all current social distancing and gathering restrictions.
A private graveside service will be held at a later time at Washington Park East Cemetery.
