Grant was born in Provo, Utah on 26 April 1924, to Wilford and Harriett (Faussett) Penrod. Grant was raised in Provo and graduated from Lincoln High School. He loved all sports--especially football--and enjoyed watching sports his entire life. Grant enjoyed nothing more than working on his family's farm. Horses were a big part of his life and he rode in the reenactment of the Pony Express Route.
On Thursday, 15 July 1943, Grant married the former Charlotte Fern Muzzell; their marriage was solemnized later in the Salt Lake Temple.
Grant ran the Huber Grater in the construction of many of the golf courses in Utah County. He was also a crane operator at Geneva Steel for forty-two years, and helped to build the plant.
After his retirement, Grant and Fern enjoyed traveling for many years and snowbirding in Arizona with his brothers and their families.
Left to cherish his memory are Grant's sweetheart, Fern Penrod; their seven children, Barry (Julie) Penrod, Darrell (Pepper) Penrod, Donna Dixon, Kelly (Denise) Penrod, LaRae Larson, Linda (Lee) Champion, Nicky (Ron) Pace; and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Grant was predeceased by his parents, Wilford and Harriet Penrod; and all eleven siblings and their spouses, Flava Rozetta Dix [1900–1977], Merline Bradney [1901–1983], Wilford Franklin Penrod [1904–1980], Velma Melissa Roylance [1906–1952], Mamie Harriett Johnson [1909–2011], Burniece Johnson Warren [1913–2007], Keller Joseph Penrod [1914–1941], Don Nephi Penrod [1917–2008], Paul Sterling Penrod [1919–2011], Ned Fausett Penrod [1922–2007]; and Cecil Garn Penrod [1926–1970].
Due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, private family funeral services and interment will be held under the direction of the Olpin Family Mortuary in Pleasant Grove.
