Roy Lanier Henry, age 90, of Porter Springs, passed away Monday, May 11, 2020 at his residence. Roy was born August 19, 1929 in Porter Springs to parents, W. D. (Buddy) Henry and Mary Sue Wolfley Henry. He graduated from Crockett High School then attended Sam Houston State Teacher’s College (Sam Houston State University) where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. After a short tenure teaching math at Pasadena High School, he joined the United States Air Force. At the conclusion of the Korean War, Roy returned to Sam Houston, teaching in the physics department while earning a Master of Arts Degree in Mathematics. He then moved to Ft. Worth and was employed by the General Dynamics Corporation as a nuclear research engineer. Roy then moved to Dallas where he became vice president of System Technology Corporation and after the merging with Columbia Scientific Corporation in Austin, he joined Atlantic Richfield Corporation (ARCO) in Dallas. Roy retired from ARCO in the late 1980’s and returned to Houston County where he taught math at Latexo High School for ten years before completing retirement. He was an active member of the Lovelady First United Methodist Church where he served as secretary of the Men’s Fellowship and other church committees.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Joyce Patrick Henry in 1997.
Graveside funeral services for Roy Lanier Henry will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2020 in the Porter Springs Cemetery with Rev. Jack McMahon officiating.
