A. Cletus Croft, 77, of Roaring Spring died Wednesday evening, June 17, 1998, at James E. VanZandt VA Medical Center, Altoona. A funeral was held Saturday at J. Gary Thompson Funeral Home, Roaring Spring, by the Rev. Sharon Erb. Burial was in Holsinger Cemetery, Bakers Summit. Mr. Croft was born Aug. 28, 1920, in Bedford County, the son of Willard and Sevella (Mauk) Croft. He married Mercedes Carney Feb. 20, 1946, in New Paris. Surviving are his wife; a son; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Croft retired as a welder from the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was a 1939 graduate of Roaring Spring High School. MR. Croft was an Army veteran of World War II. He received several Bronze Star medals and a Purple Heart medal in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations. He was a member of the Murray-Appleman American Legion Post 147 and the Ray-Camp VFW Post 7689, both of Roaring Spring, and the Martinsburg Sportsmen's Club. Mr. Croft was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Roaring Spring. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
