She received her nursing degree from Polk Community College. Susan remained a Registered Nurse her entire life, always comforting and counseling those that crossed her path. Over the years, Susan resided in Venice, FL, Wauchula, FL, Lakeland, FL, and Birmingham, AL. Susan was a devout Christian.
Susan worked for many years as a nurse and patient advocate. Additionally, she was very active in educating Lupus patients and lobbying for research. However, one of her greatest passions in life was being able to help, care and provide for others. She never missed an opportunity to prepare a home-cooked meal for her beloved family, and trying new recipes in her free time was one of her favorite things to do. She will always be remembered for being able to bring her family together for a generous meal, paying particular attention to all of the details, even if it ran just a “little late.”
Susan is preceded in death by her father, William Houston Lovett, Sr. and her former husband, Dr. Thomas M. McNaughton, Sr.
One thing she left her daughters with and they wish to share with others is this: “And remember...I am not there. To be absent from the body is to be with the Lord. Enjoy your life, it will pass very quickly. Serve the Lord and respect his laws because you don't take it with you in this life. To your children help them to know the most important thing is to serve God, keep his commandments, because what you and I and God wants for them is eternal life. And they learn by example, not being told.”
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 16th at 11:00 AM at Bowling Green Cemetery in Bowling Green, FL.
