Born at home on Ringwood Road, Freeville, NY he was the son of the late Howard and Diana Crispell Mix.
He was a 1947 graduate of Dryden High School and operated the family farm with his father and brother, Lloyd until 1965.
Jim was the owner and operator of James C. Mix & Sons Trucking, with his sons, until selling to them in 1986 (Mix Brothers, Inc.) and continued working with them until his retirement.
He was a longtime member of Ellis Hollow Church until it closed and then he attended Freeville United Methodist Church.
On October 3, 1954 he married Hendrika "Henny" Ahrens at Ellis Hollow Church.
Jim and Henny traveled in their Motor Home to every state in the union except Hawaii. He was a compassionate man, devoted husband and wonderful father.
Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years, Henny Mix at home; his sons and daughters in law, Dennis J. (Linda) Mix and Nathan A. (Barbara) Mix all of Freeville, NY; grandchildren, David Rowlands of Williamston, NC and Jason Mix of Freeville, NY, Tanya (Ian) Pollard of Pittsburgh, PA; great grandchildren, Owen and Declan Pollard of Pittsburgh, PA; sister in law, Irene Mix of Freeville, NY and brothers and sisters in law, Gysje Havenaar, Jan (Gerry) Ahrens, Willy (Al) Arnold and Joop (Barb) Ahrens all of Cortland, NY and Janny (Steve) Van 'T Slot of the Netherlands; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his siblings, Eleanor (Bill) Pease, Harold (Esther) Mix, Belva (Bud) Cornelius, and Lloyd Mix.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Austin officiating.
Friends may call from 12 - 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the charity of one's choice.
