(John) Alan Blixt died from complications for treatment of cancer on May 4, 2020.

He was born March 23, 1951 to John and Mabel Blixt in Galesburg, IL.

He had an older sister; and older brother; and a younger brother, Jerry (Debbie) Blixt of Montclair, VA. He had a large family of in-laws, many nieces and nephews, and a large extended family.

Alan grew up in Galesburg, IL

joined the US Army in 1971. He served his country during the Vietnam Conflict while in Frankfurt, Germany. He was a crew chief for Chinook helicopters and worked in transportation. He always wanted to see Germany and Paris again someday.

He moved to Des Moines and attended UEI and earned an Electronics Degree. He put that degree to good use in so many ways for the rest of his life! He worked on copy machines, card machines, airplanes, telephone systems large and small, and TV and sound equipment, satellites, then cameras.

He loved cars from the time he learned to drive his grandparents' old pick up on country roads.

He was famous for his family homemade Ice Cream recipe.

He LOVED to golf! He enjoyed meeting up with friends for a drink.

Alan married Dianna in 1978 when they both had new careers at the Xerox Corporation in West Des Moines. They have a son, a daughter, and 2 grandsons.

In 1995 he took his new hobby of Audio/Video equipment and started a business. He wired and installed a lot of electronics in Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, Virginia and Florida. He helped people change from big box TVs to flat ones that hung on the wall, and he installed some of the first satellites for TV. When people became interested, he would connect sound to the video. Large budgets or small, he would make it work.

At the age of 12, his son came after school and on holidays to help with the jobs, and together with Dianna at the office, they worked together to install electronics in small homes, large homes, bars, restaurants, businesses, hotels, and even the Iowa State Fair. He was so proud of the work, the family business, and the fact they did not advertise for the entire 25 years! Friends and family and jobs well done were the source of their business.

Alan was so proud of his children: ----for going to college and bringing his knowledge, personality and new ideas to the business; Libby for getting her degrees and becoming a Senior Auditor as well as a photographer, Military wife and Mom; and Josh for his Military Service and being a husband, father and putting up with Libby's family!

Alan and Dianna had a marriage that weathered every storm, lasted 42 years, and they found a way to make a life together their way. They had each other's backs, no matter what. They loved their business and other projects and doing them together. They took pride in the work they did, but nothing compare to their pride in Daniel and Libby. They were quite the pair. Alan will be so missed!

Donations in honor of Alan can be made at his funeral and will be disbursed to different Veteran's groups. Alan had some of the very best in medical care at the Central Iowa Veterans Hospital.
