Myrtle L. Dean
December 9, 1932 ~ May 1, 2020
Our Angel here on earth has flown into the arms of GOD - Myrtle L. Dean of Grants Pass, Oregon, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2020, at her home surrounded by her five daughters. Myrtle was born on December 9, 1932, in Independence, Oregon. Her parents David R. and (Celia) Ethel (Rhoda) Pearce raised her along with 10 siblings in the beautiful Polk and Yamhill Counties of Oregon. Due to medical reasons a majority of her summers were spent at Doernbecher’s Children’s hospital in Portland, Oregon. Although it was awfully hard being apart from her parents and siblings running the hills in Cooper Hollow, her spirit never faltered! She graduated from Dallas High School in 1952. Myrtle was an outstanding athlete, and at her 50th class reunion, that’s all the classmates talked about! She married Ralph Edward Dean on October 20, 1956, in Grants Pass, Oregon. Soon after this union, they filled their lives (and one small house) on D Street with five girls. Running out of room, they chose five acres just north of town and built their home in the summer of 1969. Together Myrtle and Ralph raised their girls (along with many “honorary” children). She was always a farm girl at heart and loved her gardens and animals, especially her chickens. Myrtle worked hard on their little farm. She also worked at Fleming Middle School as a baker for many years. This job meant the world to her, because of the opportunity to be around young people, many of those children would have been left hungry, but Myrtle never let that happen. She was generous and kind, always spoke the truth (and sometimes that hurt), but if it stung, she would be the first to follow up with hugs and words of encouragement. Not one person who met Myrtle could walk away without feeling the love that came from her heart, so full of Jesus. Myrtle is survived by her five daughters, Sally (Paul) Davis of Vancouver Washington, Julie (Bud) Ambeau of Homedale, Idaho, Carla (Jerry) Wiltse of Central Point, Oregon, Donna (Tom) Gilles of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Laura (Bobby) Turley of Grants Pass, Oregon. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Hazel (Ernie) Wiensz and Darlene (Angelo) Benetti of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Betty of California. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E Dean; her parents; brothers, William, Wilbur, Wayne and Robert Pearce; and sisters, Doris, Shirley and Patricia. *Special thanks to Nurse Mary and the staff at Bristol Hospice.* Memorial donations can be made to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital www.onwardohsu.org/donation or to a hospice of your choice at Hospice Foundation of America, 1707L Street NW, Suite 220, Washington, DC 20036
