Ralph E. Dean of Grants Pass, Oregon, passed away on October 20, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in International Falls, Minnesota, on October 29, 1925, to Rosina Haigrimson Dean and James P. Dean. After Ralph's mother passed away, James took his family to Washington State and there James married Roxanne Carpenter, and before long Ralph was surrounded with additional brothers and sisters.

Ralph lived in Randle, Washington, until joining the military in 1944. He served as a combat infantryman in the 35th Infantry. During his time in the Army, he was awarded two Bronze Service Stars and a Purple Heart among several other medals before coming home in August of 1946.

In the summer of 1956, he met Myrtle Pearce in Grants Pass, Oregon and after a few short months they were married on October 20, 1956.

Ralph and Myrtle made a home in Grants Pass, for the next 60 years. Ralph worked in the lumber mills around the valley of southern Oregon before retiring from Miller Redwood in Merlin, Oregon.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter, but his passion was being an amateur radio operator, running many HAM networks and ARRL leagues over the years(K7PMB).

Ralph is survived by his wife Myrtle and five daughters, Sally (Paul) Davis of Vancouver, Washington; Julie (Bud) Ambeau of Homedale, Idaho, Carla (Jerry) Wiltse of Central Point, Oregon, Donna (Tom) Gilles of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Laura (Bobby) Turley of Grants Pass. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Jack Dean and Ben Dean; sisters, Linda Mehl and Patricia Ross.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leroy Dean, James Dean, Dennis Dean, Arnold Larson; and a sister, Lorraine Sloan.
