Funeral Service for Shirley J. Hayes will be Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Ohlman Missionary Baptist Church, Bunker, MO. 10186 Hwy 72, Bunker, MO 63629. Officiated by Bro. Terry Sharpe assisted by Pastor Troy Sisk. Arrangements are under the direction of McSpadden Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hayes was born June 25, 1936 in Rat, MO. She was married to Donald C. Hayes on December 6, 1952. Mrs. Hayes died May 5, 2020 in Eureka, MO at the age of 83 years.
Survivors include her sister, Sandra Krull of Hermann, MO, brother, Donald Akins of Moreno Valley, CA., children, Don Hayes Jr. and wife, Patti of O’Fallon, MO, Judy Grither of Breckenridge, MO, Rhonda Kemper and husband, Barry of Cowpen, SC, Chris Record of St. Ann, MO, Kim Hayes of Lonedell, MO, 14 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Proceeding her in death was her husband, Donald C. Hayes, daughter, Vicky Lynn Brazel, parents, Noah and Clara Akins, siblings, Helen Hanners, Dorothy Sissom, Noah C. Akins, Billy Gene Akins, MaryAnn Alice Akins, Melvin Ray Akins, and James Paul Akins.
Mrs. Hayes was active in serving at Ohlman Church for many years prior to departure from her Bunker home as a Sunday school teacher and VMS volunteer. Her hobbies included crocheting, and brought her much joy in her later years. She turned this passion into a way to support St. Claire Hospital in Eureka by crocheting blue and pink hats for newborns and lap pads for Alzheimer patients.
Mrs. Hayes will lie in state 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, May 9, 2020 at Ohlman Missionary Baptist Church, Bunker, MO. Funeral Service to immediately follow. Music will be provided by Juanita May and Mike Hatcher. Interment will be at the Corridon-Reynolds Cemetery.
