JOSEPH PIERSON DIED THURSDAY
Suffered Stroke in Post Office. Funeral Services Held Saturday P.M.

While visiting with a friend in the Post Office Thursday just before the noon hour, Joseph Pierson, well known resident of Griswold, was stricken with a stroke of paralysis. He was removed to his room over the Iowa-Nebraska Light and Power Company office and a physician summoned. Soon after being stricken Wm. Lindsey a long time friend, assisted in getting him to the room and made him comfortable. Mr. Pierson only said a few words and then passed into that long sleep. Apparently he suffered little or no pain after being stricken. This was the second stroke, having suffered one some years ago.

Joseph, son of the late Joseph and Sarah Pierson, was born on a farm in Waveland township, Pottawattamie county, west of where Griswold is now located, in April, 1867. He has been a resident of this community all his life. For many years he assisted his father in the operation of a livery barn and was an expert horseman. Later he engaged in farming. Of late years when able he worked for numerous farmers in this part of the state.

He was one of a family of seven children, all of whom have preceded him in death. The nearest relatives are a niece, Mrs. Claude Putnum, and three nephews, Elmer Pierson, of near Lewis, Ralph Pierson, and Alvin Flint, of Griswold. There are also numerous other distant relatives.

Following his death the remains were taken to the Wagler Funeral Home where funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Chas. E. Cooper, pastor of the Church of Christ. Pall bearers were: Clayton Green, I. R. Lantis, Wm. Smith, Wm. Lindsey, Dave Johnson and Fred Laverty. Burial was made in the Flint cemetery by the side of relatives who had gone on before.
