KICK OF COW KILLS CASS COUNTY FARMER.
Edward Pierson, 74, was killed Wednesday morning when kicked by a cow on his farm a mile north of Griswold. He fell against a barn sill, fracturing his neck. Mr. Pierson had been a resident of that vicinity for over sixty years.

E. C. PIERSON KILLED INSTANTLY
Knocked Down by Cow; Neck Broken. Never Spoke.
E. C. Pierson, well known resident of Cass township, was instantly killed about five-thirty Wednesday morning, while assisting with the chores on his farm. The tenant, John Selders, with whom Mr. Pierson made his home, arose about five o'clock and had the chores almost completed when Mr. Pierson came out in the yard. The milk cows were being put in the barn preparatory for milking when one made a sudden turn and started for the door. Mr. Pierson was perhaps eight feet inside the door when the cow started and he was knocked down. In the fall his neck struck over the sill of the door and was broken. It is also supposed that the cow stepped on him as she ran out.

Mr. Selders heard the commotion and ran to the assistance of the injured man, but saw that he was beyond help. He called Guy Gittens and Earl Barnes, near neighbors, and Dr. H. D. Hully. All arrived about the same time. Mr. Pierson was carried to the house but life was extinct and nothing could be done. Members of the family were also called but arrived too late to see him alive.

The funeral services will be held Friday at 2 o'clock p.m. from the Central Church of Christ, conducted by Chas. F. Cooper. Burial will be made in the Griswold cemetery. The Odd Fellows will conduct services at the grave.

OBITUARY OF THE LATE EDWARD C. PIERSON
In last week's American appeared the account of the sudden death of Edward C. Pierson, well known resident of this locality, who lost his life on Wednesday morning of last week when he was knocked down by a cow and his neck struck on the sill of the barn. Mr. Pierson lost the sight of one eye some years ago and on the morning of his death complained that everything looked cloudy to him and it is thought that he failed to see the cow as she dashed toward the door, or he might have stepped to one side.

Edward C. Pierson, son of the late Joseph and Sarah Pierson, was born in Pottawattamie county, about two miles west of where Griswold is now located on December 27, 1859, and departed this life at his home one mile north of Griswold on June 20, 1934, aged 74 years, 5 months and 23 days.

He grew to manhood in this locality and on October 16, 1883, at Atlantic, he was united in marriage to Miss Ida M. Redding. Immediately following their marriage they went to housekeeping in this locality. They were the parents of three children, two sons and one daughter, Ralph Pierson, of Pleasant township, Elmer Pierson of near Lewis and Mrs. Iva M. Putnum, of Griswold. Mrs. Pierson died in April 1919. Besides the children named above he is survived by seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren, one brother, Joseph Pierson, and numerous other relatives and close friends. He was a member of Nishnabotna Lodge, No. 408, I.O.O.F., and a number of years ago became a member of the Church of Christ in Griswold.

Mr. Pierson was well and favorably known in this part of the country. He was a hard worker and a friend to all. He will be greatly missed by relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held from the Church of Christ Friday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. Charles E. Cooper. Old friends were pall bearers. Following the services at the church the remains were taken to the Griswold cemetery and laid away by the side of his wife.

Relatives from a distance who were present at the funeral services were Mrs. Bertha Shumaker and daughter, Alice, of Bronson, Iowa; Mrs. Hazel Swanson, of Sargeants Bluff, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Railsback and children, Garner, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lisher of Red Oak, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Thomelson and daughter, Red Oak; Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Moon, Atlantic; Mr. and Mrs. Watt Redding of Elliott.
