He was a member of Village Lodge Masons in Bowdoinham for 70 years.
He liked woodworking, making furniture, and metal fabrication. He greatly enjoyed his family and grand kids.
After serving in the Navy and graduating from the University of Maine at Orono, he pursued a career as an engineer at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 32 years.
Clayton was predeceased by his wife, Hazel B. Mitchell.
He was survived by his sons, Loy B. Mitchell and wife Kathleen; Rod B. Mitchell and wife Rosemary; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will take place on Thursday, June 14 at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with masonic services being presented by Village Lodge, Bowdoinham.
Arrangements are under the care of Kincer Funeral Home, 130 Pleasant St., Richmond.
