Henry Clayton "Hoss" Hampton, age 78, of Piedmont, MO was born on Aug. 12, 1935 in Reynolds County, MO and died on Jan. 24, 2014 at Christian Hospital in St. Louis, MO. On Nov. 22, 1954, he was united in marriage to Elsie Gowen and she survives of the home. Also surviving are three sons, Rick Hampton and wife Chris of Arnold, MO, Rodney Hampton and wife Lisa, House Springs, MO, Robert Hampton and wife Deanna of Farmington, MO; one daughter, Cheryl Manuel and husband Jonnie of Kernersville, NC; Ten grandchildren, Heather Still and husband Scott, Benjamin Manuel and wife Jessica, Parker Manuel and wife Jessica , Zachary Manuel, Josh Hampton and wife Robyn, Phil Hampton, Tayton and Trista Hampton, Josh Bell and Jordan Bell, and great grandchildren Alyson, Carter, Hampton, and Brody, Olivia and Harper; one brother, "Bunch" Hampton, Ellington; and one sister, Murrill, Buxton, St. Charles, MO. Henry enjoyed his family. He told them stories of things that happened when he was growing up on the farm on H.H. Highway. He told them how he and his brother David worked hard on the farm, because his Father's idea was if they were busy, they were staying out of trouble. He loved hunting and fishing with his boys, working cattle, bailing hay and riding his horse. He was of the Baptist faith and in Nov. 1958, he was baptized at the General Baptist Church on Highway 60. He later joined the Second Baptist Church, where he served as deacon. In the spring of 2013, he became a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. He attended the Rolling Hill School through the 8th grade. He went to St. Louis and worked at a chair factory. His brother-in-law got him a job in a brake shop where he worked until 1970. In 1970, he started working for Kribbs Ford and worked in repairs until 1976. He then started his own business, Hampton Auto Repair, and worked until May of 1990. He bought the farm of his dreams and run cattle until he got too bad with C.O.P.D. He is preceded in death by his parents, Turner and Mary Jane Lundry Hampton, two brothers, David and Neely Hampton and four sisters, Wanda Cowin, Leota Collyotte, Alta Mae McNeil and Elnora Widig. Visitation for Henry was held on Monday, January 27th at the Ruegg funeral home in Piedmont with services following on Tuesday, the 28th at 11:00 a.m. Bro. Stanley Gray ministered to the family and Bro Don Hutto delivered the eulogy. Scott Still, Zach Manuel, Parker Manuel, Benjamin Manuel, Josh Hampton, Phillip Hampton, Josh Bell and Tayton Hampton served as pallbearers. Online condolences can be made at www.rueggfuneralhome.com
