Ronnie (Ron) Thomas, 84, died at his home near Forest Green on April 23, 2020. He was born March 9, 1936, in Hannibal to George H. and Gladys Thomas. He married Jo Ann Dodge on June 28, 1958 at Chariton Baptist Church. They were the parents of three children.
Ron graduated from Hannibal High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education and a Master of Arts degree from Northeast Missouri State Teacher’s College, Kirksville, MO, now Truman University. He taught at Novinger, MO and Unionville, MO before going to Hazelwood School District where he taught twenty -three years, twenty as Director of Bands at Hazelwood Central High School. Following his retirement he was an adjunct professor for a brief time at Missouri Baptist College in Saint Louis and taught private instrumental music lessons. Ron had played trombone in the Northwinds Community Band in Florissant, the Columbia Community Band and the Fayette Cornet Band. He also served in the Missouri National Guard for six years. After moving to Forest Green, Ron enjoyed eight years of teaching instrumental music at Saint Joseph Catholic School.
While at Unionville, Ron accepted Christ and was baptized at First Baptist Church where he served as music director for four years. He served as music director at Salem Baptist Church, Florissant for thirteen years and was ordained a deacon. He was now a member of First Baptist Church, Salisbury.
Ron is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Jo Ann of the home; daughter Shari (Gregg) Barron, Salisbury, daughter, Denise (Dan) Morrissey, Des Peres, MO, son, David (Bonnie) Thomas, Salisbury; nine grandchildren, Whitney (Nick) Kertz, Clifton Hill, Melanie (Michael) West, Salisbury, Jody (Ethan) Dunivent, Kearney, Kevin (Destiny) Thomas, Salisbury, Kristy (Justin) Link, Keytesville, Julie Thomas, Salisbury, Shannon, Shane and James Morrissey, Des Peres; six great grandchildren, Elena, Emmalee and Elyssa Kertz, Makenzie and Maddie West, and Jude Dunivent.
Ron’s interest in music was shared with an avid interest in sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and Missouri football and basketball. His faith and family were important to him.

Due to CDC regulations, a private graveside service will be held Monday, April 27, 2020 at the Forest Green Cemetery with a public memorial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Forest Green Cemetery Association or Home Town Home Care and Hospice. Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury entrusted with arrangements.
