Son of John and Margaret Ramsour Howard. He married Frances Hawkins on October 18, 1857 in Nodaway County. Their children: Ida, Mag, Rosa who died in infancy, Sadie, Charles, Alberta, Albert, Henry, Harry and an infant who died in 1883.

Was 85 years old--Passes away this morning at home of his daughter, Mrs. M. A. Hahn.
Benjamin Howard, for over sixty years a resident of Nodaway county, died at 10 o'clock this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. M. A. Hahn, 1039 Dewey Avenue.
Mr. Howard was past Eighty-five years of age. He was born in Tennessee and when four years old, with his parents, came to Andrew County, Missouri. Later he settled on a farm about four miles Northeast of Maryville and made that his home continuously until his health became so poor that he was compelled to give up active work. For some time Mr. Howard and his wife, who died on January 29 of this year, made their home with their daughter and her family. One son, Henry Howard, died a few weeks after the death of Mrs. Howard.
Mr. Howard is survived by six children, Mrs. M. A. Hahn of this city. Mrs. Maggie Mathold of Hydro, Okla, Mrs. Sarah Pride of Edmond, Okla, Harry Howard of Amarillo, Texas, Charles Howard of St. Joseph and Albert Howard of Wilcox, all of whom were with him at the time of his death. He is also survived by one brother, George Howard of Savannah.
Funeral services for Mr. Howard will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Hahn home conducted by Dr. Gilbert S. Cox, pastor of the First Methodist church. Burial will be in Miriam Cemetery.
