Phyllis Fox Call Frogley
1931 - 2020

Early Life: Phyllis was born June 15, 1931, in Lehi, Utah, to Harold M. and Edith Chipman Fox, the oldest of their three children. Her childhood years in Lehi were full of fun times with family and friends. She enjoyed family trips to the west desert, American Fork Canyon, and her uncle’s farm. Phyllis learned to play the piano at a young age and studied with Reid Nibley in Salt Lake City. She graduated valedictorian from Lehi High School in 1949. Instead of giving a traditional valedictorian speech, she was asked to play a piano solo.
Life’s Work | Service | Interests: Phyllis attended Brigham Young University in Provo,Utah. She was president of her social unit, ToKalon, and was nominated for Belle of the Y, Homecoming Queen, and student body secretary. It was at BYU, she met B. Darrell Call. They fell in love and were married August 17, 1953, in the Salt Lake Temple. In 1953, she graduated from BYU with a degree in business.
Darrell took her to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he attended dental school at Temple University. Phyllis worked in the office of the Minister of the Presbyterian Church Board of Christian Education for three years, until the arrival of their first child, Sharon. After graduating, the small family moved to Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana, where Darrell began his dental career and their son, Brian, was born. A year later, they moved to Fairfield, California, where their daughters, Sandra and Cindy, were born. Phyllis was busy with four young children, serving as president of the Dental Wives Auxiliary and accompanist for different choral groups in the community. Ten years later, they moved to Green Valley and their youngest daughter, Christine, was born. Phyllis continued to be busy with her family and enjoyed working with the Solano Community College Choir.
Darrell and Phyllis were called to preside over the Canada Calgary Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She spent three years traveling and serving all over Alberta and parts of British Columbia, the Yukon, and Northwest Territories. She organized a missionary choir that sang throughout the mission boundaries, with holiday performances in Banff and Lake Louise. She later said, “I will never be the same as I was before Calgary”.
After leaving Canada, they moved to Provo, Utah, where Darrell wanted to retire and cheer for his beloved BYU Cougars. Phyllis was an avid Cougar fan and they enjoyed their time together in Provo. Darrell’s health declined and Phyllis cared for him for many years until he passed away in March of 1991. During this time, Phyllis taught private piano lessons. At one time, she had 43 students. A few years later, she met Keith Frogley; they married on February 15, 1997. Keith had six children and 16 grandchildren. Phyllis loved Keith’s family like her own.
As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many positions, including: Young Women president, Relief Society president, Primary presidency counselor, and stake music chair. But what Phyllis was best known for was being at the organ on Sunday. She was a ray of sunshine and loved by all that knew her. Her family and many friends will miss her. Phyllis Fox Call Frogley passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020, at the residence of her daughter, Sharon Call Weiss, in Parker, Colorado. She was 88.
