Robert Wilford McPhail, Sr., 66, died Friday, March 26, 2004, at Simpson General Hospital in Mendenhall. Visitation is 3-6 p.m. today and after 1 p.m. Monday at Lakewood Funeral Home in Jackson. Services are 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with burial in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Mr. McPhail was born in Jackson, Miss. at the "old" Baptist Hospital on November 19, 1937. His birth announcement was in the Jackson(Miss.)Daily News, Sunday, November 21, 1937. He was the son of the late Robert Guyles McPhail and Billie Rae Maulding, McPhail, Cranford, Roeling.
He married Annie Lou Scoggins of Jackson, in Wharton Co., Houston, Texas on March 25, 1955, after eloping with her.
He served our country in the United States Air Force #AF14549168 from 1954-1963 as an aircraft mechanic. He worked for White Heavy Haulers Trucking, as a mechanic, in Pearl,MS. He then worked offshore for SouthEastern Drilling Co. to a Drilling position on offshore oil rigs for the company, while living in Brandon and Clinton, MS.
He was a longtime employee of Helmerich and Payne International Drilling from 1971 as driller, toolpusher and Southern Drilling Superintendent and retired in 1998.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Charles William McPhail, Jr., in a hunting accident in Simpson Co. MS.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Annie Scoggins McPhail of Mendenhall, MS; two sons, Robert W. McPhail,Jr. and Charles W. McPhail,Sr. both of Mendenhall; one daughter, Vicki A. McPhail Craft, Hauer of Flomaton, Alabama.; one grandson, Justin D. Craft of Flomaton, Alabama.; three granddaughters, Annie "Lucy" McPhail of Jackson, Jessica "Nicki" Craft of Flomaton, Ala., and Brittany Faith McPhail of Harrisville.
