George was the son of Colonel O. Jay Berry (USAF) and Georgia Landrum Berry. He was a graduate of Wakefiled High School in Arlington, Virginia, and was a National Merit Scholar. He earned his BS from MIT, studying Electrical Engineering, and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management. George was a Professor of Computer Science at Wentworth Institute of Technology for 25 years, and for many of those, he served as Chair of the Computer Science Department. He enjoyed playing piano, writing fiction, traveling, and long bike rides.

George served in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant in the Engineering Corps during the Vietnam War.

George will be remembered for his sense of humor, kindness, intellectual curiosity, and creativity. He loved to teach, and referred to himself as "the Professor of Interesting Stuff." He was survived by his ex-wife, Jean.

George was felled by Covid-19. His loss is keenly felt.
