Walter Guthreau-Beloved Husband, Father & Grandfather

Walter Guthreau, 91, passed away peacefully at his home in Union on October 25, 2013. Born in Nova Scotia, Canada. Walter has lived in Union, NJ for 62 years. He served proudly in the Marines during WW II from 1942-1946, he served in the Pacific and was a sharp shooting drill instructor. Walter was a carpenter with the Essex County Carpenter's Union Local #1204 for 45 years, retiring 29 years ago. He was a 47 year member of the Knights of Columbus Union Council #4504, member of the Disabled American Veterans, a coach with the Union Little League and was the Recording Secretary with the Carpenter's Union. Walter is pre-deceased by his wife of 62 years, Helen Guthreau. He is survived by his children Gary and his wife Lynn Guthreau, Janice and her husband Howie Osbahr and four grandchildren, Shawn and his wife Alexandria Guthreau, Nicole Guthreau, Caitlin and Emily Osbahr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 28, 2013 at 10 am at St. Joseph's Church, 767 Prospect St., Maplewood, NJ. Visitation will be Sunday 4 to 8 pm at the Bradley Haeberle & Barth Funeral Home, 1100 Pine Ave, Union, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in Walter's name may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 20 Washington Place, Newark, NJ 07102.
