She was born to parents Thomas and Zola Mae Davis on January 22, 1934 in Tama, Iowa. She was the youngest of four children and attended Tama High School. Phyllis married Robert Barnes in 1950, and the couple had two children, Diana and Jeff.
In 1967, the family moved to Cheyenne, WY and made a life for themselves “out west”. Phyllis worked as a teacher’s aide at Baggs Elementary and Anderson Elementary in Cheyenne for twenty-one years. Her kind and patient manner made an impact on the lives of hundreds of children. She enjoyed reading, golf, traveling to Florida and loved spending time with her family; she was particularly proud of her great-grandchildren. After retirement, the couple returned to Iowa in 2000, and eventually Phyllis was able to spend her final years in the Florida sunshine.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Diana Dillinger of St. Petersburg, FL; her son, Jeff Barnes of FT. Lauderdale, FL; her granddaughter, Dawn Dillinger of Gillette, WY; and 4 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Barnes; her grandson, David Dillinger; her parents, Tom and Zola; her brothers, Clyde and Harold Davis and her sister, Norma Davis.
Her family will attend the scattering of her ashes at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens in Dunedin, FL at a later date. Cards and condolences may be sent to 1200 37th Street N. #303, St. Petersburg, FL 33713. Curlew Hills FH
