Dorothy Abney "Dotsy" Tanner, 80, of Slidell, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at Greenbriar Community Care Center. Born in Slidell on Dec. 23, 1929, she was a 1947 graduate of Slidell High School and a graduate of LSU. She taught elementary school in Baton Rouge and was a former vice president of First Bank in Slidell. She also worked at Abney Furniture Store, her brother John's business. She was involved in many local civic organizations over the years including the Slidell Symphony Society, Ozone Camellia Club, Slidell Garden Club, Guardians of Slidell History and Slidell High 50-Year Club. She was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Daughter of the late Walter L. and Annie Miller Abney, she is survived by her four children, Thomas Tanner Jr. and wife Ellen, Walter Tanner and wife Jamie, Elizabeth Tanner Edwards and husband Ian, and Susan Tanner Hanson and husband Andrew. She is survived by 10 grandchildren, Paul, Megan, Katherine, J.T., Wesley, Lindsey, Molly, Cecilia, Aubrey and Amelie; and sister, Evella Noelie "Snooky" Abney Vivien and husband Charles. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by siblings, Lawrence "Floppy" Abney, Robert "Bobby" Abney, Annie "Bootsie" Abney Rogers, Lincoln "Linky" Abney, John Abney, Wilbert "Scrappy" Abney and Thomas "Tommy" Abney. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral Mass at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West (in Forest Lawn Cemetery), Slidell, on Wednesday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Adrian Hall will officiate. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Donations to Our Lady of Lourdes Church Capital Campaign are preferred, in lieu of flowers.
