Very few records on John W Bass unfortunately, birth and death dates are approximate. His father moved to Iredell County, NC in 1817 where he married Mary Ann Stockton. His family was in Pickens County, AL in the 1840 census and John married Frances Dorcas Henderson not long after. They were in Winston County, MS in 1850 but were back in Pickens County, AL in 1855. In 1860 the family was still in Pickens County but John was gone.

John and Frances had six known children: Robert Samuel (named for his two grandfathers), Margaret Ophilia (not named for her grandmothers), Sarah, Martha L, William Hayward, and Mary E BASS.
