Victor, Prince Napoléon, titular 4th Prince of Montfort, was the Bonapartist pretender to the French throne from 1879 until his death in 1926. He was known as Napoléon V by his supporters. He was born in the Palais Royal, Paris, during the Second French Empire, the son of Prince Napoleon and his wife, Princess Marie Clothilde of Savoy, daughter of Victor Emmanuel II, King of Italy. He was appointed head of the house of Bonaparte at the age of 18 in the will of his cousin, Napoléon Eugène, Prince Imperial, only son of Emperor Napoléon III, who died in 1879.
