Odessa Man Killed In Fall From Pole
A young Odessa electrical service worker, the father of three children, fell from a utility pole here Saturday and died of a broken neck.
Manual R. Woods, 25, 211 Judkins, apparently touched a live wire and fell to his death while working in the alleyway off W. 16th between N. Alleghany and N. Washington.
Dr. H. E. Hestand said Woods was dead on arrival at Medical Center hospital.
Woods also had a broken right leg and a lacerated left arm.
Opinion is that Woods was climbing a pole, touched a 110-volt line with his chin, and fell.
Woods was employed by the Texas Electric Service Co., and had worked for that organization four years.
He had lived in Odessa since 1943, and had been married since 1946. He was a member of the Baptist church.
He was originally from Goldthwaite.
Woods, widow, Jane, reportedly underwent a recent operation and was recuperating at home.
Survivors include: his widow; two sons, Manuel Ralph, 4, and Leonard, 2; a daughter, Nancy Lamoine, six months; six brothers, Johnny M., Carl D., and Dean E., all of Odessa, and Gene Donald, and Danny L. , Goldthwaite; two sisters, Mrs. Tom Moore, San Saba, and Carlene Woods, Goldthwaite, and his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Woods, Goldthwaite.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today in the First Baptist church with Rev. Arthur DeLoach officiating. Burial will be in the Odessa Cemetery under the direction of the Hubbard Funeral home.
