Johnny was a long time member of "Permian Basin Hot Wheels." He enjoyed wood working, building bird houses and feeding his 14 turtles. He was a member of the Ector County Sheriff's Posse Jeep Patrol and Mounted Patrol. He proudly served in World War II, including the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged and received a Purple Heart. Johnny was a proud American. He loved life, and enjoyed traveling.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Ruedean Farrar Woods, and second wife, Norene Woods.
He is survived by his daughter, Johnnie Dean Ayers & husband Bill of Odessa, step-daughter, Tressa Spencer of Arlington, TX, step –sons, Robert Harrison & wife Judy of Austin, Harold Harrison & wife Martha of Paris, TX, brothers, Denny Woods of San Angelo, Gene Woods of Albuquerque, NM, sisters, Syble Moore & Carlene Jones both of Odessa, grandson, Cogo Woods and wife Kristal of Midland,, step-grandchildren, Scott & Wendy Spencer, great-grandchildren, Thomas Woods, Brayden Woods & step-great-grandchild, Jayla Spencer and long time friend and companion Geta Carpenter.
There will be a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 25, 2010 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
