Richard Elmo Pierson, age 95, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2020, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital.

Richard was born December 20, 1924, near Griswold, Iowa, the son of John Robert and Clara Nevada (Chubick) Pierson. He was raised in the Griswold area where he attended school. Richard was united in marriage to Charlotte Kinser on July 14, 1950 in Atlantic, Iowa. They made their home near Griswold, Iowa and later moved to Elliott, Iowa. In 1958, the family moved to the Red Oak area. Richard worked for the railroad for approximately 42 years, retiring from Burlington Northern in 1987. He and Charlotte loved traveling in their motorhome and wintered in Arizona for many years. Richard enjoyed tending to his flowers and was quite a history buff. Richard and Charlotte were former Red Oak Eagles Lodge members.

Preceding him in death were his parents, 11 siblings, grandson, Jerame Pierson, and great granddaughter, Ali Pierson. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte of Red Oak; children: John Pierson and wife Kris of Reno, Nevada, Quintin Pierson and wife Kathy of Malvern, Iowa, Milton Pierson and wife Katie of Houston, Texas, Gwendolyn Pierson-Geer and husband Rob of Red Oak, and Vernon Pierson and wife Kelli of Red Oak; 21 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; sister, Leona Lint of Villisca, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

A private family interment service will take place at Evergreen Cemetery and a celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
