James A. Elkins, 93, of LaCrosse, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2020. He was born April 2, 1926 on the family farm in Kentucky to Gale and Sarah (Harris) Elkins. Jim proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II in Saipan and Iwo Jima. He made his career as a farmer and a Stationary Boiler Engineer with the state of Indiana. Jim was a member of the American Legion Post 94 and the Eagles of Valparaiso. He enjoyed woodworking and staying busy in his yard. Jim will be remembered for his generous nature and friendly personality.
On February 20, 1947, in Jamestown, KY, he married Willena Patricia Sharp, who preceded him in death in 2007. He is survived by their sons: Rick Elkins of Valparaiso, Gale Elkins of La Crosse; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and a sister, Elizabeth Todd, of Bloomfield, IN, who is 100.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Carson, eleven brothers and sisters, and a daughter-in-law, Jean Elkins.
A private burial will take place at Union Mills Cemetery, with a celebration of life at a later date. Kosanke Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
