Thomas H. Tierney, III., 88, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2017 after a brief illness.
Tom was born in Schenectady on July 31, 1928 a son of the late Thomas and Ascunsion Mecada Tierney, Jr. He was a 1946 graduate of Mt. Pleasant and began work at ALCO. Tom honorably served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict; upon discharge he began his 30 year career as a letter carrier with the USPS, spending 28 years in Clearwater, FL. Tom retired in 1983 and returned to Rotterdam in 2013. He is a life member of the Rotterdam Elks and the National Association of Letter Carriers.
Tom is predeceased by his wife, Melina Stagnitta Tierney; also his second wife, Marjorie Carroll Tierney; sister Sue Tierney; sister-in-law, Lillian Tierney; stepson James Carroll.
He is survived by his loving children, Thomas H. (Michele) Tierney, IV, of Rotterdam, Tina M. (Kirk) Buell, of Glenville and Michael T. (Patricia MacCallum) Tierney, of Rotterdam; his twin brother, Alfred E. Tierney, of Schenectady; step-children Thomas, Edward and Michael Carroll; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 8:30 am on Saturday from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union St. and then to Our Lady Queen of Peace, where a Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 am. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Schenectady, New York.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home on Friday from 5 to 7pm.
