He was very active in the church and community events and maintained the cemetery grounds for many years. Peter was a member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Cestohowa, the Cestohowa Men's Club, and the Karnes County Farm Bureau.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Winkler; a son, Walter Winkler; sisters Sylvia Laskowski and Annie Moravits; and a brother, Fred Winkler.
Survivors include: wife of more than 61 years, 4 daughters, a sister, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
