During WWII Mr. Thompson served with the Army Signal Corps and Army Air Corps. He also was called up during the Korean Conflict and served as an instructor at the Air Force Reserve Training Center in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1974 he graduated from the Air War College. He retired from the USAF Reserve at the rank of Lt. Colonel with 31 years of service to our country.
Mr. Thompson was a professional electrical engineer employed by Arkansas Power and Light Company (now Entergy) from 1949 to 1988. After retiring from AP&L he worked part-time as a system planning consultant for Conway Corporation electric utility. In 1981 he was selected as engineer of the year by the Arkansas Society of Professional Engineers. In 1984 he was elected a member of the Arkansas Academy of Electrical Engineers. He received the IEEE centennial medal for having made outstanding contributions in the field of electrical engineering.
Everett and Lee were charter members of the Saint Luke United Methodist Church in Pine Bluff, and he served as Pine Bluff district lay leader at the Little Rock annual conference. From 1985 until his death he was a member of First United Methodist Church in Little Rock.
Mr. Thompson was a charter member of Pine Bluff's Intercity Kiwanis Club and served as a lieutenant governor for the Missouri/Arkansas district. He received the International Kiwanis president's award for outstanding achievement in membership development. At his death he was a member of Little Rock's Downtown Kiwanis Club and a strong supporter of Pfeifer Camp in Ferndale. He served as a scoutmaster and adviser to the Boy Scouts, and under his leadership five scouts earned the Eagle rank.
Mr. Thompson is preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother Mae Galbraith Thompson, his sister Eileen Moore, and his brother Samuel W. Thompson. He is survived by his wife Lee, sons Dr. T. T. Tyler Thompson and Rev. Davis (Laura) Thompson, daughters Lee Anne (Greg) Berson and Vikki (Steve) Hamilton, grandchildren Andy (Amber) Hamilton, August Thompson, Suzanne (Russ) Barnard, Casey (John) Loftus, Mikelle (Jeremiah) Elliott, Meredith Berson, Bailey (Devon) Hamilton, Colby Hamilton, and Dawson Hamilton, as well as eight great-grandchildren.
Services at First United Methodist Church in Little Rock. Interment at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock.
