John W. Gaines of Campbellsville, son of the late Frank Gaines and Irene Sallee Gaines, was born July 22, 1926 in Green County, Kentucky. He died Sunday, March 22, 2020 in Campbellsville. He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Millers Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War II, having served his country honorably in the United States Army as a tech sergeant. He was a family man who loved spending time with them. He united in marriage to Doris E. Sapp Gaines March 1, 1947. She preceded him in death October 1, 2009. John is survived by one son and three daughters: nine grandchildren; ; twenty seven great-grandchildren; thirty one great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Gaines; one brother and two sisters: James Allen Gaines, Mary Catherine Gaines and Frances Phillips.
