Sophia Elizabeth McKenzie (went by Eliza) was the youngest of four known children of William Washington McKenzie (1803-1894) and his second known wife, Isabella Caroline Ewing (1814-1871), who married 27 Jul 1839 at Christian County, Kentucky. William was first married to Mary Caroline Stevenson (1804-1838) on 07 Oct 1827 at Christian County, Kentucky, with whom he had five known children.

Eliza married her first cousin, Fidelio McKenzie Girand (1835-1905) on 17 Oct 1875 at Christian County, Kentucky. Eliza and Fidelio were the parents of three known children, namely:

1. James McKenzie Girand (1878-1891)
2. infant son Girand (1884-1884)
3. Francis Marion Girand (1886-1947)

In 1880 the parents and son James were living at Lafayette, Christian County, Kentucky. In 1900 F. M., Eliza and son Marion were living at Magistrate District No. 4, Christian County, Kentucky with Fidelio listed as a farmer. Eliza said she was the mother of three, one living. Fidelio served with the "Texas Rangers", a Confederate Unit (8th Texas Calvary) during the Civil War. Sophia was a first cousin of Fidelio's. Fidelio went to Texas in 1855 and returned to Christian County, Kentucky in December, 1866.

Hopkinsville, Newpaper:

Mr. F.M. Girand died Sunday near Bennettstown, after an illness of long duration of cancer of the eye. He was in his 70th year and was a native of Christian County.

Deceased was a Confederate Veteran and a member of the Presbyterian church. He is survived by a widow, who was formerly Miss Sophia McKenzie, daughter of the late Mr. W. W. McKenzie, and a sister of Hon. Jas. A. McKenzie of Oak Grove, and J. B. McKenzie, of this city. She has been matron at the Confederate Home at Pewee Valley, Ky., for several years.

Funeral services were held Monday by the Rev. J. C. Tate, of Clarksville. and the internment took place in the Ewing Burying ground, near Bennetstown.
