Judge McKenzie was the son of Andrew and Elizabeth (Stevenson) McKenzie. He married twice: First to Mary Caroline Stevenson and second to Isabella Caroline Ewing.William Washington McKenzie was the third of eight known children of Andrew McKenzie (1771-1817) and Elizabeth Stevenson (1779-1840), who married c1798 at presumably Iredell County, North Carolina.

William first married to Mary Caroline Stevenson (1804-1838) on 07 Oct 1827 at Christian County, Kentucky. Mary was a first cousin of William's. William and Mary were the parents of five known children, namely:

1. Miles Ewing McKenzie (1827-1884)
2. Francis Adlai McKenzie (1829-1882)
3. Elizabeth Ann McKenzie Cooper (1831-1876)
4. Josiah Bell McKenzie (1832-1914)
5. Mary Washington McKenzie Sherrill (1834-1859)

After Mary died William remarried to Isabella Caroline Ewing (1814-1871) on 27 Jul 1839 at Christian County, Kentucky. William and Isabelle were the parents of four additional known children, namely:

6. James Andrew McKenzie (1840-1904)
7. John Fielding McKenzie (1842-1896)
8. Isabella "Queenie" Catherine McKenzie Moss (1845-1916)
9. Sophia Elizabeth McKenzie Girand (1852-1914)

William was a Magistrate of Christian County for 38 years, a County Judge, State Senator of Kentucky, Ruling Elder in the Presbyterian Church for 50 years and a farmer.

Louisville, Ky., March 21 - A special to the Courier-Journel from Hopkinsville, Ky., says:

Judge William W. McKenzie, one of the oldest and most prominent citizens of southern Kentucky, died at his home near Bennettstown, in this county, yesterday, of a complication of diseases, after a long illness, aged 81 years."
