- Lyda Jo Wright Davis Darsey, 73, of Alanreed died Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, in Pampa.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday on the Darsey Ranch with Thacker Haynes and Ronnie Ferguson officiating. Arrangements are by Bailey-Ware Funeral Home of McLean.

Mrs. Darsey was born Oct. 16, 1933, to John Frank Wright Sr. and Pearlie Bostick Wright in Masterson and spent her early years at the Bivins Booster Plant.

Lyda was a founding member of the American Chuck Wagon Association and served on its original board.

Lyda and Les were feared and successful chuck wagon cook-off competitors and won the 2002 American Cowboy Culture Chuck Wagon Award and the 1998 Academy of Western Arts Award for Chuck Wagon of the Year in addition to numerous chuck wagon cook-offs in Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas and Arizona.

Lyda was an excellent cook and "guarded" her award-winning recipes fiercely and always said, "she would rather talk about her sex life than give out her recipes."

Lyda loved living on the ranch and cooking for the cowboys, and the only thing she loved better than cooking was dancing with Les.

She will be missed by everyone whose life she touched.

Lyda was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Pearlie Wright; her first husband, Bobby Frank Davis; a grandson, Kerry James Abbott; and her mother-in-law, Edna Darsey.

Survivors include her husband, Les Darsey, whom she married in 1989; three daughters, Trudy King, Tonya Whipkey, Robbie Weldon and husband Vance; two sons, Joe Bob Davis and Clayton Davis; a stepson, Mike Darsey and wife Leslie; two sisters, Dolores "Bibs" Ruth and husband Jack of Malaga, Wash., and Kathryn Wright of Baytown; a brother, John Wright Jr. and wife Billie of Russellville, Ark.; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Norma and David Purcell of Pampa; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three nephews; a niece; and numerous cousins and extended family
