Funeral services for Raquel Luna Garcia will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 20 at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in the El Reno Cemetery under direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Raquel died March 14, 2020, at home in El Reno. She was born Oct. 19, 1929, in Enid. Raquel was raised in El Paso before returning to Enid during her teen years. There she met and married Pete Garcia and they moved to El Reno where they made their home. They had three children.

Although they never had much, she would always find something for the hobos to eat when they got off the train. In the 1960s she worked for the Bickford Cafeteria and a few of the other downtown restaurants. During the 1970s she worked at TG&Y, many times having to walk to and from work to her home on the north side of town.

Raquel had a hard life but it made her strong. She was fiercely independent, still walking to the store by herself as recently as last fall. Raquel did it her way.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Nick Luna; sister, Maria Cleveland; and her son, David Garcia.

She is survived by her son, Joe Garcia and wife, Sharla; daughter, Carol Hernandez and husband, Raul; and two granddaughters, Maria Hernandez and Erica Hernandez.
