Arthur John Hodel was born John Favenc to Percy Secundus Favenc and Mary Ellis Ainslie Coutts. When Mary Ellis Ainslie Coutts married Joseph Hodel 2 years later, he took the Hodel surname, and eventually became Arthur. Once of his children was registered as Favenc, and the next registered as Hodel.
