The former Delilah Damron, Mrs. Nelms began her long life in a log cabin on Caney Creek, the first white child born in the Caney Creek country which was then considered Indian Territory. The Caney Creek, as described in Mr. R. S. Weddle's Book, Plow-Horse Calvary, was "In the rolling hills of eastern Grayson County, Texas, Caney Creek rises to wind its way in tortuous meanders across the north-western sector of Fannin County to the Red River." Mrs. Nelms was the wife of Mr. Christopher Columbus Nelms. Both are buried in Fannin County at the Old Carson Cemetery.
