Christopher Columbus Nelms served in the Civil War. He enlisted July 6, 1861 at Bonham Texas and served in the Ind Mtd. Vols, 14th Brigade, Texas Militia. He died July 2, 1911 at his home at Ector, Texas. Wife, Delilah Damron Nelms knitted socks for the soldiers during the Civil War. C.C. Nelms built the first house at Ector, Texas, where all eleven of his children were born and reared. Delilah Damron Nelms died at her home at Ector, Texas Nov. 23, 1912. She is buried beside her husband in Carson Cemetery at Ector, TX. C.C. Nelms was the son of Reverend John A. Nelms, a Methodist Minister who was born in 1797 in Virginia. Reverend and Mrs. Nelms came to Texas with their family in 1842 from Kentucky, settling in Ector, Fannin Co., TX.
