Mrs. Frances Florence Smithson Called to the Great Beyond
The readers of The Eye in Needles and vicinity will be pained to learn of the death of Mrs. J. B. Smithson, Jr., which occurred at San Bernardindo last Tuesday. During the time that Mrs. Smithson was a deputy sheriff and while he was stationed here, his wife resided with him for several months and made many friends who mourn her death and sincerely condole with the bereaved husband. The following account of her death is taken from the Evening Index:
Mrs. Frances Florence Smithson, wife of John B. Smithson, Jr., died this morning at 9:30 in the private ward of the county hospital. The news of Mrs. Smithson's death proved a sad shock to a large circle of friends and many relatives whom she had known during the thirty-eight years of her life, for she was born and reared in San Bernardino, and has dwelt here all of her life with the exception of a short time spent on the desert.
Mrs. Smithson had been failing for over a year. At last an operation was decided upon in the hope of affording relief and a return to health. A few days ago she was taken to the county hospital where an operation was performed, but the ravages of a complication of disorders had so weakened her that she could not rally. She was conscious up to yesterday afternoon and though realizing her danger was cheerful and inspiring to the ones who watched eagerly for improvement. She suffered no pain and her last moments of consciousness were peaceful.
Mrs. Smithson is survived by her husband and little three-year-old daughter, Lois, a father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. James H. Case, two brothers, Steven and Jesse H. Case, county jailor; two sisters, Mrs. Stella Heap and Mrs. Cyrena Smithson, and many relatives.
The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the George Heap residence at Ninth and G streets.
