Major League Baseball Player. For five seasons (1977 to 1981), he played at the third base and outfield positions with the Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays. Born William Ted Cox, he made his initial impact on the baseball diamond as a star player during his years at Midway High School in Oklahoma. He caught the attention of Major League scouts which led to his being signed as a first round pick during the June 1973 Amateur Baseball Draft. He broke into the Big Leagues on September 18, 1977. Cox set a Major League record when he produced 6 consecutive hits in his first 6 career at bats. Additionally, he added a base on balls which increased his total to reaching base 7 straight times. To date, this feat still stands. In 1980, while with the Seattle Mariners he recorded a career high 60 hits, in 83 games played.
