PHILIP FOX, M.D., was born near Lima, La Grange Co., Ind., March 27, 1840; is the son of George FOX, who settled on Sec. 35, town of Fitchburg, June 1843; Dr. FOX made that his home until 1870, although he attended school at Sinsinawa Mound, and graduated at Bellevue Hospital Medical College in March 1863; entered the United States services in December 1863, as Assistant Surgeon of 2d W.V.I., and was mustered out July 1864, and returned to practice with his uncle, William H. FOX, of Fitchburg, remained there until the spring of 1870, then removed to Janesville, where he practiced for six years; Jan. 1, 1877, he came to Madison, and has since been engaged in practice here. Dr. FOX married in Madison, September 1866, Anna E. REYNOLDS; they have four children - Philip R., Anna Kathalin, Mary J. and William George. The Doctor is a member of Dane County Medical Society; also a member of the State Medical Association.

The Fox family's ancestral name was O'Cathernaigh. They owned most of County Westmeath and part of the Barony of Kilroudsey in King's County.

George Wilkinson Fox was the brother of William Herriman Fox.

Philip Fox, son of George and Catherine (March 27, 1840- June 24, 1932) also a renowned physican, he joined the 2nd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry as assistant surgeon in December of 1863. He was the personal physician of Robert M. "Fighting Bob" LaFollette.
Anna E. Reynolds, wife of Philip Fox, (February 3, 1845 - September 5, 1894), the daughter of Dr. William Reynolds.

Philip and Anna's son Dr. George Fox died in Milwaukee in 1920 and is buried there.

Philip and Anna's son Philip R. "Rod" Fox (June 23, 1867 - October 2, 1945 was also a Dr. His wife was Katherine Brigham (April 8, 1876 - January 22, 1956) She was the daughter of Jerome Ripley Brigham who was the brother of Dane County pioneer Ebeneezer Brigham. Her mother was Mary Ilsley, a member of the family that founded the Marshall & Ilsley Bank.
Philip and Katherine's daughter Anna Kathleen (November 21, 1869- December 4, 1932) died after a 20-year illness that no doctor was able to diagnose.
