Princess Elizabeth Caroline was born at Norfolk House, St James's Square, Westminster, a daughter of Frederick, Prince of Wales, eldest son of King George II and his wife, born Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha). She was a sister of King George III. HRH Princess Elizabeth Caroline died on September 4, 1759 at Kew Palace, London, and was buried at Westminster Abbey.

Her burial in "the Royal vault" at Westminster Abbey took place on September 14, 1759 and is recorded in The Marriage, Baptismal, and Burial Registers of the Collegiate Church or Abbey of St. Peter, Westminster, Volume 10, page 395 (edited and annotated by Joseph Samuel Chester).
