G. G. Nesbitt Jr., 69, of 622 Jordan St., an outstanding local sportsman and pioneer in the oli [sic, oil] industry in Claiborne Parish, died today at 6:30 a.m. in Schumpert Hospital.

A descendant of two families prominent in the settlement of the East Texas area, Mr. Nesbitt had resided in Shreveport over 37 years. eH [sic, He] had been ill for an extended time prior to his death.

BOTH MR. NESBITT and his wife, the late Sunshine Johnson eNsbitt [sic, Nesbitt], were recognized widely for their capabilities as fishermen and big game hunters. They owned collection of fish and game trophies almost unparalleled in the Ark-La-Tex. The couple had made Shreveport their permanent residence since 1930.

Mr. Nesbitt, born in Nacogdoches, Tex., was the son of the late G. G. Nesbitt and Sallie Ashton Land Nesbitt. He was a graduate of the Homer High School and a veteran of World War I. He served with Gen. John J. Pershing in the Mexican border campaign of 1916 and later was commissioned and served with the American Expeditionary Forces in France. 

HE WAS STILL active in oil industry circles at the time of his death.

Funeral services will be conducted in the chapel of Osborn Funeral Home Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Ralph McMichael, assistant rector of St. Mark's Episcopal Church officiating. Assisting at the services will be the Rev. Dr. J. Frank Alexander, pastor of First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Forest Park.

SURVIVING Mr. Nesbitt are one son, William J. Nesbitt of Shreveport, and two grandchildren, Gammon Gregg Nesbitt III and Mrs. Richard M. Rice, both of Baton Rouge.
