Mr. Cornwell spent his entire life as a farmer, leaving school at a young age to work on the family farm. His hand picked cotton was always the first bale to be received and counted. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, hunting, and working in his yard and garden. Mr. Cornwell most especially loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Buddy, Jerry, David, G.L., Carroll Dean, and Kenneth Cornwell; and three sisters, Bernice Cagle, Marie Webster, and Geneva Goodman.
Mr. Cornwell is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nina Fay (Nelson) Cornwell of the home; two sons, Clay Cornwell of Brookland, and Doug Cornwell and wife, Wendy of Tavares, Florida; three daughters, Jeannette Green of Oakland, Tennessee, Judy Gaines of Brookland, Arkansas, and Nanci Cornwell of Eustis, Florida; three grandchildren, Eric Green and wife, Erika, Amberley Daniel and husband, Trent, and Jacob Cornwell; three great-grandchildren, Madison, Gabriel, and Copeland Green; many nieces, nephews, and a lifetime of friends.
Friends may visit at Jackson’s Newport Funeral home, Tuesday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be at Memory Garden Cemetery.
